Oral- under the tongue, mouth closed
Tympanic- ear
Rectal- inside the rectum
Axillary- armpit

Oral- 98.6
Rectal- 99.6
Tympanic/Axillary- 97.6
Areas of the body (arteries) that pulse can be taken
Apical- on the chest, over the heart
Radial- wrist, just below the thumb
Carotid- neck
Normal adult pulse rate (heart rate)
60-100/minute
Bradycardia
pulse rate below 60
Tachycardia
pulse rate above 100
Normal adult respiration
15-20/minute
Hypertensive
high blood pressure
Hypotensive
low blood pressure
Systolic
the pressure when the heart is contracting
Diastolic
the pressure when the heart is relaxing
Normal adult blood pressure
120/80 mm Hg
