Respiratory Rate and rhythm
observe rate, rhythm, depth, and effort
normal number of breaths per minute
14-20 per minute in adults and up to 44 per min in infants
rapid shallow breathing- Tachypnea
for some reason they can make deep breaths they do short breaths very fast
rapid deep breathing- Hyhperpnea, hyperventilation
deep breaths and rapid
Bradypnea-
very slow breathes, between breaths the patient seems like its not breathing. Less than 14 per minute.
cheyne-stokes breathing
may normal during sleeping in infants
ataxic breathing or biot
unpredictable irregularity of depth and rate. Mix of abnormalities in breathing.
Sighing breathing
respirar normal pero cada cierto tiempo suspirando, puede ser normal pero sino es sindrome de hyperventilacion
Temperature: Examination technique
Average oral is 37 Celcius or 98.6 F
Rectal temperatures are higher than oral by 0.4 to 0.5
axillary temperature are lower than oral by 1, and its less accurate
tympanic membrane: are more variable, taken on kids
instrument for oral temperature
glass thermometer or electronic thermometer
How to use the glass termometer?
shake the thermometer down to 35 degrees, insert under the tongue and wait for 3-5 min, read, reinsert for 1 min and read again
Rectal Temperature
posicion fetal, hip flexed. Lubricar el termometro e introducirlo 3-4 cm en direccion al ombligo. Dejar 3 minutos

no es confiable tiene muchos errores
Thympanic temperature
the ear has to be free of cerumen, espera 2-3 seg.
