arrangement of opposite elemtns( eg light/dark, large/small, rough/sooth)
what are some examples of camera shots?
close up
extreme close up
medium shot
long shot
what do angles imply?
high angle implies condescension/vulnerability, low angle is empowering
what are some examples of different colour schemes?
warm dark light dull muted cold vivid monochromatic
what do colours do?
help to build atmosphere and to appeal to certain emotions
eg
red = passion, anger, vitality
blue = peace, harmony, coldness
what is symbolism?
use of an image to represent one or more complex ideas
what are some examples of body language?
opened or closed
what are some examples of facial expressions?
joyous, melancholic, sorrowful etc
what do gestures do?
movement of a body part expresses an idea or meaning
what are some examples of gaze and what do they convey?
- direct: suggests the character is determined, canny, set, constant, stable, confident
- averted(looking away): secretive, furtive, lack of confidence
- uplifted(looking up): pathos(trying to appeal to sympathy), isolation, loneliness, suppliication, modesty, shyness
- downcast(looking down): humiliated, defeated, melancholy, lonely
- vacant (looking nowhere): absent, alienated, bewildered, thourghtful
what is the composition of a shot referring to?
consider all inclusions (what was delibertely in it) and omissions (what was deliberately left out) in the choice of surroundings, objects, clothing etc
