Visual perception Flashcards
Perception
the mental process of organising and interpreting sensory stimuli sent from the senses so it achieves a meaningful form
Sensation
a physiological process involving sensory receptors detecting and responding to the presence of stimuli
Sensory receptors
neurons that detect and respond to physical energy
Perceptual system
bodily structures involved in the process of organising and interpreting a specific type of sensory stimuli so it achieves a meaningful form
What makes up visible light?
The wavelengths of electromagnetic energy from 380 nanometres to 750 nanometres to which the human eye is sensitive.
Brightness
corresponds roughly to the physical amplitude of light waves (waves of higher amplitude are ‘taller’ and carry more energy, causing colours to appear brighter and more intense)
Hue
what we perceive wavelengths as; colour; the longer wavelengths produce blue, green, orange and yellow, the highest being red
