Visual Flight Rules Flashcards
When inside CAS at or above FL100, what are the VMV minima to fly VFR?
1500m horizontally from cloud, 1000ft vertically
8km vis
When inside CAS below, what are the VMV minima to fly VFR?
1500m horizontally from cloud, 1000ft vertically
> 250KIAS = 8km vis
250KIAS or less = 5km vis
When outside CAS, what are the VMC minima and what is the exception for aircraft in the UK military low flying system?
Same as in CAS, except:
At >140kts in the low flying system, min vertical distance from cloud should be 500ft
What is a special VFR flight and where can they be used?
A flight cleared in to a control zone using VFR in met conditions below VMC.
Allows flights where pilots are unable to comply with IFR, in circumstances where VFR flight is not permitted.
May be used in control zones in the UK. Not able to be used in control areas or airways.
Pilot must comply with ATC instructions, remain COCISS, vis not less than 1500m, remain at 140KIAS or less and avoid ATZs unless permission obtained to enter.
How do you cross an airway using an established Radar Corridor (RC)?

What must you do if you wish to cross an airway?
File a flight plan either before departure or when airborne
Request crossing clearance at least 10 mins flying time from the intended crossing point
Crossing clearance obtained as follows:
“…, C/S, request crossing… (airway) at (position)”
When ATC instruct, pass details:
C/S
Aircraft type
Position and hdg
Level and flight conditions
Position of crossing
Requested crossing level
Estimated time of crossing
