Visible light and colour Flashcards
What is order of colours in the visible light spectrum?
Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet
Red is the longest wavelength and Violet is the shortest
Red has the shortest frequencies and Violet has the fastest frequencies
Why are the three colours in the cones in the eye?
The eyes have three types of cone cells for detecting colour, red, green and blue
Each cone is better at detecting certain colours of light
RED AND BLUE - magenta
BLUE AND GREEN - cyan
GREEN AND RED - yellow
What happens when light hits opaque objects?
Opaque objects don’t transmit light
When visible light hits them, the colour of the object is reflected into the eye and the other colours are absorbed into the eye
How do you see white lights?
White objects are when all the wavelengths of all the colours and reflected equally
How do you see black objects?
Objects appear black when you absorb all the wavelengths of visible light
How do translucent objects transmit light?
They transmit light but also scatter light so you can’t see much of it
How do transparent lights transmit light?
They transmit light in straight lines so u can clearly see the light through them
What happens if you look at a blue image by a blue filter?
It will still look blue due to the blue light reflected from the objects surface is transmitted by the filter
What happens if you have a red object and you look through a blue filter?
The object would appear black as all the light reflected by the red object would be absorbed by the filter
What will a cyan filter let through?
It will allow wavelengths of blue and green and cyan as blue and green make cyan
