Visible Light and Colour Flashcards
What is black
An absence of light
What is white
A combination of all the wavelengths
What does opaque mean
Doesn’t transmit any light
(All wavelengths of light are either absorbed or reflected)
What does transparent and translucent objects both do
Transmit a lot of the light that hits them (passes straight through)
What do only transparent objects do
Transmit nearly all the light (small fraction is absorbed or reflected)
What do only translucent objects do
Only transmit some of the light
The proportion of the light they transmit determines how well we can see through
What determines the colour of translucent objects?
Which wavelengths are transmitted the most (other wavelengths are being absorbed)
How do you colour filters works?
Filter out particular colours so only certain wavelengths can pass through
(Only transmit certain wavelengths they absorb the rest)
How does a primary colour filter work?
Only allows one of the three primary colours to be transmitted
How do filters that Aren’t for primary colours work?
They let both the wavelength of the same colour as the filter through
as well as primary colours that can be added together to make that colour
