Viscosity Flashcards
Define Viscosity
Viscosity is a measure of a fluid’s resistance to flow
Viscosity Formula
Viscous Force (F) = -n A (dv/dx)
where,
dv/dx -> Rate of change of velocity with distance
A -> Area of cross section
n -> Coefficient of Viscosity
What is stoke’s law
Stokes’ law describes the force of viscosity on a spherical object moving through a fluid
Stoke’s Law Formula
F = 6 X pi X n X r X v
where,
n = fluid viscosity
r = sphere radius
v = sphere velocity
What is terminal velocity
It is the maximum speed an object can reach when falling through a fluid, such as air or water
Terminal Velocity Formula
v = 2r^2 (p - P)
———————
9n
where,
p = object density
P = fluid density
r = radius or area of object
n = viscosity of liquid
