Viruses Flashcards
What do Virus genomes consist of?
DNA or RNA, classified as DNA, RNA, or retro-virus.
What is the outside of a virus?
Protein Sheath or Capsid, animal viruses might also have glycoproteins, virally encoded proteins, and host cell lipids.
What are the 4 types of viruses?
Helical, Icosahedral, Binal, or polymorphic
Why can Virus not reproduce on their own?
No Ribosomes or Enzymes
What is an Icosahedron Virus
20 triangular face, Animal Virus, forms a shell with max internal cap.
What is a Bacteriophage?
Star Wars bacteria virus
Viral Genomes
Single Strand RNA, with very high mutation rates, with DNA virus usually being double-stranded.
What is the Virus reproduction cycle.
- Attachment/Absorption
2.. Penetration/Injection - Synthesis
- Assembly,
- Release
- Eclipse Period
What is the Lytic Cycle?
Viruses infect and rapidly kill the cell.
What is the Lysogenic Cycle
Virus hides and is reproduced in the DNA, only takes over with stress or stain on the cell.
Phage Conversion
The Lysogens bacterium is altered by a prophage.
HIV
Human Immunodeficiency Virus might have the same receptor as SP, CCR5. Targets healthy CD4+/T cells, distorting the immune response.
What glycoprotein des HIV use?
gp120
How is HIV currently being treated?
Durg cocktail, since it mutates a lot and has lots of different versions.
What are the four areas HIV medication treats?
Reverse Transcriptive inhibitors, Protease, Viral entry, integrase
