Where does Allah سبحانه وتعالى say in the Qur’an - “Allah will elevate those of you who have believed and those who were given knowledge, by degrees/in ranks.”
Surah Al-Mujadila, ayah 11 (58:11)
يَرْفَعِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنكُمْ وَٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْعِلْمَ دَرَجَـٰتٍۢ
Where does Allah سبحانه وتعالى say in the Qur’an - “and say, “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.””
Surah Taha, ayah 114 (20:114)
وَقُل رَّبِّ زِدْنِى عِلْمًۭا
In this ayah, Allah سبحانه وتعالى commanded the messenger ﷺ to ask Allah سبحانه وتعالى to increase him, not in wealth or status, but in knowledge
Finish the hadith - The messenger ﷺ said “When Allah سبحانه وتعالى wants good for someone __________________________
Allah سبحانه وتعالى gives him understanding of the religion”
(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith 71)
Finish the hadith - The messenger ﷺ said “Whoever takes a path to seeking knowledge, __________________________
Allah سبحانه وتعالى will make easy for him a path to Paradise”
(Sahih Muslim, Hadith 2699)
Why is knowledge a path to Jannah?
Allah سبحانه وتعالى says “And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me” - Surah Adh-Dhariyat, ayah 56 (51:56).
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
We have been created to worship Allah سبحانه وتعالى and you cannot worship Allah سبحانه وتعالى unless you have knowledge
What was Imam Ahmad’s statement regarding the importance of knowledge in order to live?
“People need knowledge more than they need food and drink, because they need food and drink once or twice a day, but they need knowledge with every breath they take.”
We seek knowledge (knowledge of the Qur’an of Allah سبحانه وتعالى and the Sunnah of the messenger ﷺ) in order to live.
Finish the hadith - The messenger ﷺ said “The example of the one who remembers Allah سبحانه وتعالى and the one who does not remember Allah سبحانه وتعالى __________________________
is like the example of the living and the dead”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 6407)
