VIRTUE ETHICS-relationship Between Eudaimonia And Pleasure Flashcards
What are hedonist philosophers wrong about
Good for humans is not pleasure
As pleasure cannot be a final end and we are more than just pleasure seeking animals and there are other virtues we can aim for that dont bring us pleasure
Does Aristotle argue that pleasure is good
It’s good but not ‘the good’ as while we shouldn’t indulge in excessive physical pleasures its still a virtue to enjoy physical pleasures and the shunning of it is an vice.
It also plays a crucial role in developing out virtues and helping us reach eudaimonia as initially we may not enjoy being honest etc but as we start to act as a virtuous person we can start to enjoy it and get pleasure from fulfilling these virtues
In ethics what does Aristotle argue is the primary source of pleasure
