Q

Vaccines

A

prevent virus infections by activating host immune system

Help increase herd immunity which limits or stops virus transmission - we need 50-80% immunity in the population to stop the spread of a virus

Q

Vaccines

Herd immunity

A
  • Vaccines give a level of immunity in a population
    • number of animals that need ot be protected is different for different viruses
    • could be 50-80% depending on the virus
  • Enough of the population has to be previously infected or immunized to stop transmission
    • we do not need 100% of the population immune to stop the spread of viruses
  • Unimmunized people are indirectly protected by herd immunity of hte population
