What is viral exanthema?
A
Widespread skin rash accompanying a viral illness

Describe the epidemiology of viral exanthema
A
- Very common during childhood → especially chickenpox (varicella), measles, rubella
- Immunizations have decreased the number of cases of measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox

What are the causes/ risk factors for viral exanthema?
A
- Measles (rubeola)
- Rubella (German measles)
- Varicella (or chickenpox)
- Fifth disease
- Roseola

What are the presenting symptoms/ signs of viral exanthema?
A
- Spots or Blotches on skin with Widespread Rash
- More likely to occur on trunk - Fever
- Malaise
- Headache
- Loss of Appetite
- Muscular aches and pains

What investigations are used to diagnose/ monitor viral exanthema?
A
- Viral Swab
- Blood Tests

How is viral exanthema managed?
A
- Antipyretics → paracetamol
- Moisturising emollients to reduce itch
