How are measles spread?
When a person is infected they can spray thousands of tiny droplets containing virus particles to infect others.
What are the symptoms of measles?
Rash, fever, cold-like symptoms
Why are most young children vaccinated against measles?
Unvaccinated young children are the most vulnerable to measles.
How is HIV spread?
The most common way is through intimate contact without protection. It can also be spread by sharing injecting equipment.
What are the symptoms of HIV?
Rash, fever, muscle pain, sore throat
When does AIDS occur?
AIDS is the late stage of HIV infection that occurs when the body’s immune system is badly damaged because of the virus
How does TMV affect the growth of plants?
TMV causes plants to produce less chlorophyll resulting in a lower rate of photosynthesis being performed. Therefore less glucose is produced causing less energy for respiration and growth.
Describe the signs of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV)
infection in plants.
One sign is that a mosaic pattern of discolouration on the leaves is seen.
