Viral and Fungal diseases Flashcards
What diseases are caused by viral pathogens?
Measles (spread by droplets), HIV (spread by sexual contact), and Tobacco Mosaic Virus (spread via infected leaves).
What diseases caused by fungal pathogens?
Rose Black Spot (spreads through the environment in water or by the wind).
Causes of measles?
People can develop a red skin rash, and they might show signs of a fever. Serious diagnosis of measles can also lead to pneumonia or a brain infection called encephalitis.
Causes of HIV?
Can cause flu-like symptoms for a few weeks. Long-term HIV can lead to badly damaged immune systems, leading to cancers or AIDS.
Causes of Tobacco Mosaic Virus?
Mosaic pattern develops on the leaves - parts of the leaves can become discoloured. This discolouration means photosynthesis can’t happen as effectively, so the virus affects growth of the plant.
Causes of Rose Black Spot?
Causes purple or black spots to develop on the leaves of rose plants. These leaves can then turn yellow and drop off. This means that less photosynthesis can happen, so the plant doesn’t grow very well.
