GONET-MEDEVILLE CHAMPAGNE, brut premier cru tradition

A

Grapes: 70% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier all from cru sites
Vintage: nv
Region: 70% Chardonnay from Bisseuil Pinot Noir (from Ambonnay and Bisseuil) and a bit of Pinot Meunier (from Mareuil-sur-A )
Tasting Notes: intensely aromatic yet pure and mineral bouquet followed by a full-bodied, pure and powerful yet refreshing palate with lots of fruit and structure as well as remarkable freshness. It’s complex and mineral, a bit loud perhaps and with nice grapefruit bitterness.
Fun Stuff: Julie and Xavier Gonet-Medeville are, in many ways, the first couple of French wines. Both hail from storied winemaking families: Julie’s family is famous for its incomparable Chateau Gilette, and Xavier comes from a long line of Champagne growers in Le Mesnil. Leading a new generation of winemakers, they bring their family knowledge, methods and passion to the many wines they now make together.
Most of the juice is from the 2014 vintage
Process: The hand harvested grapes are destemmed and then lightly pressed. 70% is vinified in temperature controlled tanks, 30% in neutral barriques. The wine is then bottled 7 months after harvest and kept on the lees for 24 months. Wines are put to market after a minimum of 4 months after being disgorged.
