Give two features of a village in 1066 ?

  • A church- very important for religious reason many built from wood and some stone
  • Many villages contained just 12-15 houses owned by Ceorls and peasants
  • Extra: a plough which was a valuable item as it was essential for making crops

A

Wattle and daub
- wattle could be sticks
- Daub was wet soil, clay and sand which acted as a cement
- did make homes waterproof but often needed repairs
