What did Viking farmers do in winter? And why?
They kept their animals inside the longhouse, feeding them hay. Because of the harsh Scandinavian climate.

In “farming villages”
What was done according to seasons?
Plowing, sowing (planting seeds) the crops and harvesting
What does plowing mean?
Turn up the earth of (an area of land) with a plough, especially before sowing (planting seeds)
What does sowing mean?
Plant (seed) by scattering it on or in the earth
What didn’t need to be done according to seasons?
Working on the fences, mucking out the animals pens, gathering wood or dung for the fire, making/repairing tools, milking sheep and cows, feeding chickens and ducks
What does mucking mean?
Remove manure and other dirt from a stable or other building where animals are kept
