Video Notes Flashcards
1
Q
What are streamlines?
A
The layers of flow in a vessel that can cause laminar parabolic flow - the streamlines near the middle have the least friction
2
Q
What are the 3 types of laminar flow?
A
- Parabolic
- Plug
- Disturbed
3
Q
What is Reynold’s number and the categories?
A
Reynolds < 1500 = laminar flow
Reynolds 1500 - 2000 = intermediate / disturbed flow
Reynolds > 2000 = turbulent flow
4
Q
What are bruits?
A
The sound of turbulent flow that can be heard in an artery
5
Q
What is thrill?
A
The feeling of turbulent flow e.g. fistula
6
Q
How is laminar flow observed using spectral?
A
Most blood cells are travelling at similar speeds = narrow trace
7
Q
What is the law of conservation?
A
Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed
