A
- Part word repetitions
- Whole word repetitions
- Blocking
- Prolongations
- Physical tension/ twitching

What are examples of things parents can do to help?
A
- Talk/ read slowly
- Use pauses
- Ask fewer questions
- Let their child finish speaking
- Physical closeness
- Practise turn taking
- Wait for child to speak
- Maintain routine (bedtimes ect)
- Don’t shy away from disciplining their child when neccessary
- Try reduce pressure on child

What is a way a parent can work out what triggers their child’s stammer? (examples of triggers aswell)
A
The parent(s) can keep a journal or diary of when their child stammers, to spot any patterns.
Examples of triggers might be:
- Fatigue
- Household pace
- Disruption of routine
- Big events (e.g. moving house ect…)

What are examples of risk factors for persistent stammering?
A
- Family history of persistent stammering
- Being male
- Poor speech and language skills
- Sensitive/ emotional personailty
- Child having bad reaction to their stammer (upset)
- Anxious or worried parent
- Big life events
- Busy family schedule
