XLS Shot
Extreme Long shot. Emphasis size of character compared to landscape.
Long Shot (LS)
• A shot in which a person can be seen from head to toe.
Medium Long Shot (MLS)
• A shot in which a person
can be seen from the
knees upwards.
Medium Shot (MS)
• A shot in which a person can be
seen from head to waist.
Medium Close Up (MCU)
• A shot in which a person can be seen from head to shoulders/ upper body.
Close Up (CU)
Close Up (CU) • Close ups are shots usually of the characters face used to show emotion or activity
Extreme Close Up (XCU)
Extreme Close Up (XCU)
• A shot which captures a specific feature or reaction on a
person’s face.
Zoom
. Zoom in or out from an unexpected, yet important, object or person in your shot.
Pan
Panning is when you move your camera horizontally; either left to right or right to left, while its base is fixated on a certain point.
Tilt
Tilting is when you move the camera vertically, up to down or down to up, while its base is fixated to a certain point.
Dolly
A dolly is when you move the entire camera forwards and backwards, typically on some sort of track or motorized vehicle.
Truck
Trucking is the same as dollying, only you are moving the camera from left to right instead of in and out. Again, it is best to do this using a fluid motion track that will eliminate any jerking or friction.
