2 April 1945, Lake Comacchio, Italy.
Hunter was in charge of a bren gun section, he offered himself as a target to save his troop.
Hunter seized the Bren gun and charged 200m across open ground, firing from the hip, clearing buildings of german machine guns. So determined was his advance that 6 Nazi’s surrendered and the rest fled.
After this, the troop came under fire, so again Hunter exposed himself and took the majority of the fire. He fired with great accuracy up to the last.
