A victim (or member of a victims whānau who has welfare, health, counselling, medical, or legal needs arising from the offence) should have access to services that are responsive to those needs.

A person whom an offence is committed by another person (who also suffers physical injury, or loss/damage to property.
Also a parent or legal guardian of a CYP who falls under the meaning of victim

A specified offence; an offence of sexual nature, serious assault, serious injury, death, becoming incapable, an offence of any other kind that has led to the victim having ongoing fears on reasonable grounds.

Victims contact node is to ensure all correspondence with the victim is recorded and put into the NIA to avoid any conflict.

This form is completed if the victim is required or requests support. This form needs to be submitted on the day or day before the defendants first court appearance to te victim advisor.
Victim Rights Act - Explain the POL1065 form
This form adds the victim into the VNR (Victim Notification Register). The victim has the rights to apply under section 29 and to be informed of these rights at the time of the offenders arrest. The VNR allows them to receive updates on the offenders proceedings.
What are common emotional reactions of a victim?
Angry/blame police, shock, disbelief, denial.
What are the responsibilities regarding section 29 (Victim Rights Act) notifications?
- Identify the prosecution file cover sheet.
- Check the qualifying offence is correctly populated.
- Inform the victim of the offenders arrest & they have the right to apply to be on the VRN. Explain the rights this gives them.
- After the victim is registered, the victim notification coordinators will manage registrations.
When should referrals for the victim whose significantly affected by the incident be made?
Immediately at the earliest possible opportunity.
