What is the definition of a victim?
- Person against Whom an offence is committed by another person
- person who through an offense committed by another person suffers physical injury or loss of property or damage to property
- parent or legal guardian of a child or young person who meets the above criteria
- immediate family member of a person who dies What is in capable as a result of an offense committed by another unless that person is charged or convicted
What is VNR?
A process set up by agencies to notify registered victims about bail, release, escape and death of a defendant
Who can go on the VNR?
Only victims of offenses specified in section 29 of the victims rights act.
This offence must be:
A sexual or serious assault
One that resulted in serious injury to a person or death or rendered them incapable or
One of another kind that has led the victim to have ongoing fears on reasonable grounds
For their physical safety or security
Or
For the physical safety or security of one or more members of their immediate family
What is the primary objective of the medical examination?
The health and safety of the victim
