Vibration Flashcards
Vibration
To and fro movement/motion of an object
Oscillations
Slower vibrations in comparison to rapid vibrations
Equilibrium/mean position
The position is where the object would naturally rest in the absence of force
Time period
Time taken by a vibrating object to complete one oscillation
Time period
Time taken by a vibrating object to complete one oscillation
Frequency (with formula)
Number of oscillations completed by the vibrating object in one second ( f = 1/T )
Amplitude of the oscillation
The maximum displacement of the vibrating object from the central position
Wavelength (SPEED)
Speed of periodic wave motion is related to the frequency and wavelength of the waves.
Wavelength definition
Distance covered by a wave during the time in which a particle of the medium completes one vibration
Compression
When a vibrating object moves forward it pushes and compresses the air in front of it creating a region of high pressure called compression
Rarefraction
When a vibrating object moves backward it creates a region of low pressure called rarefraction.
Wave
Due to vibratory motion of the particles of the medium a periodic disturbance is produced in a material medium called wave
Volume
Loudness or softness of a sound ( L = A2 )
Pitch
Shrillness or flatness of a sound, depends on its frequency
Range of the human ear
20 Hz to 20,000 Hz
