What are veterinary medicines?
A
- All animals other than humans
- All products that treat/ prevent disease by exerting pharmacological, immunological or metabolic action

A
- Enforce regulations on VMR
- Pharmacovigilance
- Testing for veterinary meds in animals (products)
- Licensing veterinary medicines (MA)
- Assess and authorise companies to sell veterinary meds
- Control how the meds are made and distributed

What are the 5 categories of veterinary meds?
A
- POM-V - clinical assessment required and only be prescribed and supplied by a veterinary surgeon with a written prescription
- POM-VPS - prescribed and supplied but a veterinary surgeon, pharmacist or suitable person. Written prescription if only needed if supplied is not a prescriber
- NFA-VPS - supplied by a veterinary surgeon, pharmacist or suitable person
- AVM-GSL - an authorised veterinary med available at GSL
- Unauthorised - can only be prescribed by a veterinary surgeon through cascade
