What VN?
A
Describes inflammation of the vestibularcochlear nerve, usually attributed to a viral infection. This distorts signals of the brain which are essential for movement therefore causing vertigo.

Presentation (symtoms)
A
Acute onset of vertigo
horisontal spinning
history of recent viral infection
symptoms are most severe in the first few days,
vertigo constant in the first few days
Nausea/vomitting

is the cochlear nerve impacted?
A
NO, therefore symptoms should not include hearing loss and tinnitus

What test can you use?
A
Head impulse test

Management
A
same as labrynthtis
may need admission if dehydrated due to nausea
