Vesicular Trafficking Flashcards
intracellular trafficking role
move proteins and lipids between different membrane bound compartments
involves 3 proteins
GTPases, Adaptors, and Coat proteins
Types of GTPases for vesiclular trafficking
ARF and Rab
role of GTPases
hydrolyse GTP into GDP- essential role in vesicle formation and transport
via recruiting Coat Proteins to the donor membrane
2 Types of Coat protein
COPI and COPII
Role of COPI and COPII
COPI- involved in cargo recycling
COPII- Carries cargo from ER-> Golgi
Role of Rab GTPases
Regulate vesicular trafficking by- vesicle budding, transport, tethering and fusion
specificity of Rab
Each Rab protein is associated with a specific membrane- to ensure correct delivery
Role of Adaptor proteins
bridge interaction between Cargo molecules and Coat proteins
2 types of adaptor protein
Cargo adaptors- recognise specific cargo molecules
Coat adaptors- recruit coat proteins to donor membrane- dependent on function
Vesicle budding (uses which proteins)
Coat proteins and GTPases induce cell curvature
coated vesicle then encapsulates cargo molecules
reason for uncoating in proper vesicular trafficking
Coat proteins removed after budding
Allows fusion with target membrane
