Q

Neural arch components and function:

A
  • Pedicle- joins body to transverse process
  • Transverse process- attachment for muscles and ligaments
  • Articular process- form synovial facets with vertebra
  • Lamina- joins transverse to spinous
  • Spinous process- directed downwards and backwards, attachment for vertebral ligaments

Q

C1= Atlas specialisation

A
  • Kidney shaped facets for occipital condyles which allows nodding at atlanto-occipital joint
  • No spinous process
  • Has a facet for dens process

Q

C2= Axis specialisation

A
  • Dens process- Atlanto-axial joint which is a pivot joint which allows rotation of head.

Q

Ligaments of Vertebral column

A
  • Articular ligaments= synovial articulations between ribs and vertebral column and facets of vertebrae
  • Adjacent vertebral spines= Infraspinous and Supraspinous
  • Ligamentum Flavum= connects adjacent laminae
  • Ligmentum Nuchae- Thickening of Supraspinous ligaments in cervical region
  • -> runs from Occipital protuberance and nuchal line to C7.
