Verbs Flashcards
Verbs are actions.
Simple as that. A standard verb is always an action. Example “She went to the store” .
Went is the verb because it’s showing what she did. The action in the sentence.
Verb tense.
Verb tense depicts when the action occurred. The categories are. Past, Present, or future.
Linking verbs
Linking verbs describe a “State of being”
If the verb describes what the subject is like than it is indeed a linking verb.
Helping verbs.
Helping verbs help us from tenses or moods.
Describing when an action occurs or if the action is possible.
Helping verbs must be part of a larger verb phrase, example “ I can’t believe”.
Progressive verbs.
A progressive verb shows that an action is ongoing. Example “ He is still studying.”
Modal verbs
Modal verbs are “helpers” that allow us to show
likelihood, ability, need, or permission.
The modal verbs are May, might, must, can, could, shall, will, and would.
