Usamos para falar do presente, rotina e expressar algo que acontece frequente
Present simple
Como fazer pergunta no simple present?
Use o verbo auxiliar antes do sujeito.
- Do I/we/you/they work?
- Does he/she/it drive(aqui não tem “s” porque ele já foi incluído no Does).
“be”, “have”, “will” e “do”, são exemplos de verbos que podem ser auxiliares e por isso, deverão ir para o início da frase (quando estiverem presentes).
- I am play video game
- Am I play video game?
- You have watched so many movies
- Have you watched so many movies?
Como fazer pergunta no simple present?
Use o verbo auxiliar antes do sujeito.
- Do I/we/you/they work?
- Does he/she/it drive(aqui não tem “s” porque ele já foi incluído no Does).
- I come from Canada.
- Where do you come from?
Mas quando o verbo houver os verbos “be”, “have”, “will” e “do”, não precisamos colocar o verbo auxiliar no início da frase.
- I am play video game
- Am I play video game?
- You have watched so many movies
- Have you watched so many movies?
Verbo to be
I - eu // am
You - você // are
He - ele // is
She - ela // is
It - isso/ aquilo (objeto, lugar e animal) // is
We - nos // are
They - eles // are
You - vocês // are
Simple present negative
She doesn’t drink (sem o s) wine
I don’t speak English very well
When the verb do is a main verb, we use te auxiliar do (present simple)
What do you do?
He doesn’t do anything to help.
We use the present simple to say how often we do things
I get up at 8 o’clock every morning
How often do you go to the dentist?
Robert usually goes away two or three times a year.
We use present simple when:
- I promise
- I apologise
- I advise
- I insist
- I agree
- I refuse
I promise I won’t be late

Present continuous X simple present
We use the present continuous for things happening at or around the time of speaking. The action is not complete.
We use the simple present for things in general or things that happen repeatedly.
We use the present continuous for temporary situations (things that continue for a short time)
We use the simple present for permanent situations (things that continue for a long time)
I’m living with some friends until I find a place of my own.
My parents live in London.
You’re working hard today
He works hard most of the time
Pay attention when we use:
Him- dele
Me - mim
Her - dela
Them - deles / delas
It - disso/daquilo
She likes him (ela gosta dele)
He gave her the book (ele deu o livro para ela)
They saw me at the park (eles me viram no parque)
I’ve lost my keys again. I’m always losing them.
I always do X I’m always doing
I always go to work by car -> I do it every time
I’ve lost my keys again. I’m always losing them -> I do too often or more often than normal
When the think means believe or have an opinion, we do not use the continuous.
I think Mary is Canadian, but I’m no sure

When think means “consider”, the continuous is possible
Nicky is thinking of giving up her job (he is considering it)
See, hear, smell, taste, look and feel
We don’t use present continuous
Do you see that man over there
Are you cooking? It smells good.
The room smells.
This soup doesn’t taste very good
