Rules of SVA

A
  1. Titles of books, movies, somgs, etc. are SINGULAR
  2. Remove prepositional phrases after the subject.
    Ex: The tray of cookies looks delicious. (remove of cookies)
  3. Remove prepositional phrases before the subject.
  4. The verb agrees with the subject of the sentence
  5. Two or more subjects joined by ‘and’ are considered plural.
  6. If the subjects are joined by ‘or’, ‘nor’, or ‘but’, the verb must agree with the subject that is closest to it.
  7. For sentences that start with ‘here is/are’, ‘there is/are’, look ahead to determine the subject.
  8. Indefinite pronouns have different rules on number.
  9. Some nouns are always plural/always singular
