Ventricular Arrhythmias Flashcards
What is idiopathic VT
Idiopathic VT refers to ventricular arrhythmias that occur in patients without underlying structural disease, i.e patients with normal hearts
How does idiopathic VT usually present?
- PVCs
- Non-sustained monomorphic VT
- Sustained monomorphic VT
Absence of heart disease in idiopathic VT is suggested by?
- Normal ECG
- Normal coronay angiography or stess testing
Note: Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may identify certain abnormalities in some patients, even when all other tests are normal.
Are genetic channelopathies such as long QT, Brugada and catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia [PMVT] considered to be idiopathic VT?
These patients may have only subtle electrocardiogram (ECG) changes and otherwise no structural heart disease.
Theyare prone to ventricular tachyarrhythmias and sudden cardiac death, but are not considered under the heading of “normal heart VT” because of their primary electrical abnormalities
