16
Q

Why do Store Rooms have Special Ventilation Requirements?

A

They are subject to the build up of toxic fumes (CO2), which is heavier than air

17
Q

Why do Auxiliary Machinery Spaces have Special Ventilation Requirements?

A

To prevent any build up of gas, 50% of exhaust terminals will be found at deck level

18
Q

Why do Sewage Treatment Spaces have Special Ventilation Requirements?

A

These spaces require 15 air changes per hour with a seperate exhaust system, and a slight excess of exhaust capacity from the supply

19
Q

Why do Magazines have Special Ventilation Conditions?

A

They are fitted with their own air conditioning system, which allows for 100% treated fresh air

20
Q

What does ATU stand for?

A

Air Treatment Unit

21
Q

What does AFU stand for?

A

Air Filtration Unit

22
Q

When are AFUs used?

A

They are used in a CBRNDC State 1 environment, Condition Zulu Alpha

23
Q

What sections do AFUs consist of?

There are 3 sections

A

-Pre-Particulate Filter
-Particulate Filter
-Gas Filter

24
Q

Describe the Pre-Particulate fiter

A

A paper filter which removes coarse particle matter, including radio-active fall-out

25
Q

Describe the Particulate filter

A

Made of glass fibre; designed to remove paticulate such as bacteria by entrapment

26
Q

Describe the Gas Filter

A

Designed to remove all known chemical warfare agents in the form of gases or vapours from the airstream by absorption in the activated charcoal filling

27
Q

When are Citadel tests carried out?

There are 5 occasions

A

-Annually
-Prior to DED (Docking Extended Duration)
-During HATs (Harbour Acceptance Trials)
-During SATs (Sea Acceptance Trials)
-During FOST Work-Up

28
Q

What does a Citadel need to be sealed to?

A

A pressure of 2” WG

29
Q

What is a Crash Stop?

A

A Crash Stop facility is built into the ventilation system to allow all fans to be stopped in case of an emergency

30
Q

What do you need to check before Restarting a Vent System?

A

The Vent Intakes must be checked to see if they are clear of Smoke, Welding Fumes and Debris
