Ventilation Flashcards
What are the uses of ventilation?
1) Cooling of electronic equipment.
2) Main machinery space cooling
3) Habitability
4) Galley ventilation
5) CBRN
What are the four basic configurations of ventilation?
1) Fan supply and fan exhaust
2) Fan supply and natural exhaust
3) Natural supply and fan exhaust
4) Natural supply and natural exhaust
What type of ventilation would be fitted to machinery spaces, galleys, laundries, WCs and bathrooms?
Fan supply and fan exhaust
What type of ventilation is used in store rooms and workshops?
Fan supply and natural exhaust
What type of ventilation is used in paint stores, inflam stores and spirit rooms?
Natural supply and fan exhaust
What type of ventilation is used in unoccupied compartments and lobbies?
Natural supply and natural exhaust
What are the 6 types of common filters?
Panel filters
Supply filters
Grease filters
Lint filters
Dust filters
Flameproof gauzes
What are the 6 certain spaces that require special filters?
Galleys
Store rooms
Auxiliary machinery spaces
Magazines
Paint stores
STPs
What are the certain compartments that have fire flaps?
Galleys
Main machinery spaces
Magazines
What are the requirements of the ventilation in an STP?
15 air changes per hour
Low level exhaust
More exhaust than supply.
What does ATU stand for?
Air Treatment Unit
What percentage of air is recirculated/fresh when using the ATU?
33% fresh, 67% recirculated
What does AFU stand for?
Air Filtration Unit
What CBRNDC state would an AFU be used in?
State 1, condition ZULU ALFA
Describe the three stage ventilation on an AFU.
Pre-particulate filter - paper filter which removes course particulate matter including radioactive fallout.
Particulate filter - Glass fibre filter designed to remove bacteria by entrapment.
Gas filter - Removes all known chemical warfare agents in the form of gas/vapours by activated charcoal filling.
