16
Q

Name all the spaces that require special filters

A

Galleys
Storerooms
Aux Machinery Spaces
Sewage Treatment Spaces
Magazines

17
Q

Special requirement of Galleys

A

· Have Fire Flaps fitted to their exhaust trunking

18
Q

Special requirement of store rooms

A

subject to the build-up of toxic fumes (CO2) which is heavier than air.

19
Q

Special requirement of Auxilliary machine spaces

A

To prevent any build-up of gas 50% of exhaust terminals will be found at deck level.

20
Q

Special requirement of Sewege Treatment Spaces

A

These spaces require 15 air changes per hour with a separate exhaust system and a slight excess of exhaust capacity from that of the supply.

21
Q

Special requirement of Magazines

A

fitted with their own air conditioning system which allows 100% treated fresh air

22
Q

ATU Air Percentages

A

under normal conditions use 33% Fresh air and 67% Re-circulated

23
Q

ATU

A

Air Treatment Unit

24
Q

AFU

A

Air Filtration Unit

25
Q

When are AFUs Used

A

CBRNDC state 1, Condition ZULU ALFA

26
Q

3 sections of AFUs

A
  1. Pre particulate filter
  2. Particulate filter
  3. Gas filter
27
Q

What is pre particulate filter?

A

A paper filter which removes coarse particulate matter including radio-active fall-out

28
Q

What is a particulate filter

A

Made of glass fibre; designed to remove particulate such as bacteria by entrapment

29
Q

What is a gas filter

A

Designed to remove all known chemical warfare agents in the form of gases or vapours from the airstream by absorption in the activated charcoal filling

30
Q

What is a citadel?

A

whole ship chemical, biological and nuclear shelter
• Formed by closing the ship down to an increased gas tight state

31
Q

How does a citadel work?

A

works by increasing the atmospheric pressure within the ship above external pressure using air filtered by AFU units

32
Q

Why are citadel tests done?

A

For the citadel to function correctly, the gas tightness must be checked regularly, and any defects made good.

33
Q

Name all the citadel tests

A
  1. Annually
  2. Prior to DED (Docking Extended Duration)
  3. During Harbour Acceptance Trials (HATS)
  4. During Sea Acceptance Trials (SATS)
  5. All ships will be required to carry out a Citadel Test during FOST Work-up
34
Q

What pressure is effective for a citadel to work efficiently

A

Half inch water gauge

35
Q

Why is a crash stop facility used?

A

crash stop facility is built into the ventilation system to allow all fans to be stopped in case of an emergency, e.g. FIRE or CRASH ON DECK.

36
Q

Why do we restart vent systems?

A

RESTART of VENT SYSTEMS: before any ventilation is restarted the vent intakes should be checked they are clear of Smoke, Welding fumes and Debris.

37
Q

Where is Crash Stop Board situated?

A

SCC
