Microscopic version of veins that connects the capillaries to the veins
Possesses layers similar to veins, but thinner

Always carry blood towards the heart
Bluish in color, having thin walls compared to healthy arteries

Only in certain areas of the body
Will appear as 2 small veins
Find on either side of an artery
Example: distal end of the extremities

Formed by the union of the subclavian and internal jugular vein

Blood is returned here from the thoracic wall, head, arms, by the right and left brachiocephalic veins and the azygos system
