Venous Drainage Flashcards
Superior Cerebral Veins
Drain superolateral and medial surfaces of the cerebral hemispheres
Empty into the superior sagittal sinus
Middle Cerebral Veins
Located in lateral (Sylvian) fissure
Drain lateral surfaces of the cerebral hemispheres
Empty into the cavernous sinus
Inferior Cerebral Veins
Located on the orbital surfaces of the frontal lobes and inferior surfaces of temporal lobes
Orbital vv. empty into superior sagital sinus
Temporal vv. empty into cavernous sinus (via middle cerebral veins)
Superior Anastomotic Veins (of Trolard)
Connect the superficial middle cerebral vein with the superior sagittal sinus
Inferior Anastomotic Veins (of Labbe)
Connect the superficial middle cerebral vein to the transverse sinus
Basal veins
Formed by anterior cerebral veins (medial aspects of cerebral hemispheres) and deep middle cerebral veins (drain insula and surrounding gyri)
Great Cerebral Vein (of Galen)
Formed by right and left internal cerebral vv (drain deep structures of cerebral hemispheres (thalamus, basal ganglia, choroid plexus)
Drain into the straight sinus
