The focus of fire attack team should be on ___ the fire until primary search is complete. Then followed by extinguishing
Confining
Seven times VEIS should be used
Single or multi family with known victims or high probability due to time of day, cars in driveway, reports of trapped
When fire is between fire attack entry point and location of victims (causing possible delay for interior search teams)
Lower floor fires with bedrooms upstairs (especially if interior is delayed in locating stairs)
Single story fires with fire blocking access to potential victims
Center hallway apartment buildings with fire blocking egress from adjacent apartments
Residences with complicated floor plans
Rooms with interior door closed
Five situations it shouldn’t be used
Low rescue profile, area of residence with no door control, backdraft conditions, VEIS and PPV at the same time, flashover is imminent
Outside team FF tools
TIC, Pick head axe, appropriate sized ladder to reach upper floor window for vent and egress
OV FF tools
6 roof hook, halligan, second ladder for VEIS
Three things to obtain from bystander for VEIS
Location of fire, presence/location/# of possible victims, easiest route to fire and/or victims
Radio communications should include these six
Location of fire, location and coordinating of vent, location of VEIS entry, if the interior door was able to be controlled after vent, when a victim is located, exit of structure after VEIS
When coming to the door on VEIS what is crucial after proceeding directly to door?
If closed, open the door briefly to sweep the hallway, quickly closing the door afterwords. If open, sweep the hallway then close door, this is the critical “isolate” step
