Passes behind and underneath the clavicle

Superior and inferior petrosal sinuses

Facial vein
What do the superior and inferior labial veins drain into?
Facial vein
What does the facial vein drain into?
Internal jugular vein
Superior and inferior opthalmic veins
What is the clinical significance of the facial vein draining into the superior and inferior opthalmic veins which drain into the cavernous sinus?
Provides route for infection in face to spread into dural venous sinuses in cranial cavity
mostly affecting meninges
What is the internal jugular vein a continuation of?
Sigmoid sinus
Where does the internal jugular vein arise?
Jugular foramen
Where does the internal jugular vein travel after it arises?
Descends down the neck
How does the internal jugular vein travel down the neck?
Laterally in the carotid sheath
What does the internal jugular vein drain into?
Combines with the subclavian vein to form the brachiocephalic vein
Where do the internal jugular vein and subclavian vein join together?
Posterior to the sternal end of the clavicle
What is meant by the danger triangle of the face?
Area of the face which if it’s infected
the infection can spread by venous drainage to the dural venous sinuses in the cranial cavity
mostly affecting the meninges
