Veins and arteries Flashcards
diff between arteries and veins
arteries has a muscular layer
elasticity able to expand and contract, has arteries leave the heart they get smaller
veins are collecting ducts, has valves, when we walk muscle skeletal pump - muscles contract to push blood up the body
as veins goes back to the heart they get bigger
arteries –> arterioles –> capillaries –> venues –> veins
layers of the artery
Adventitia outer layer
tunica media - middle layer
- Arteries need oxygenated blood bc middle layer is a muscle
tunica intima - inner layer
cerebral retrograde cardioplegia
NOT cardioplegia, it is just cold blood, and de-airing the brain
Circle of willis
layers of the heart
Three layers of tissue:
Epicardium— protective layer mostly made of connective tissue.
Myocardium— the muscles of the heart.
Endocardium— lines the inside of the heart and protects the valves and chambers.
