LTA section 22(1) initial driver responsibility
when in an accident a driver must:
Stop their vehicle
Ascertain whether anyone injured
Render all practical assistance to anyone injured or killed
LTA sec 22(1) initial driver responsibility penalties
Non-injury: 3 months imprisonment or $4500 & minimal 6 months disqualification
Injury/death: 5 years imprisonment/$20,000 fine. Minimum 1 year disqualification
LTA 1998 section 22(3) duty to report injury
Crash involving injury or death, driver must:
Report accident in person to nearest police station/enforcement officer
As soon as practicable and NO LATER THAN 24 hrs after time of crash
LTA 1998 section 22(4)
Duty to report damage
Crash involving damage to property of another persons:
Driver MUST:
Report within 24 hours to owner (driver details, address, rego, crash location)
If owner can’t be identified/contacted report within 60hours to police
Penalty =$5000
