vegetative propagation Flashcards
what is vegetative reproducation
type of asexual reproduction where stems, leaves /roots attached to the parent plant produces new individuals
3 examples
runners/roots/bulbs
runners
stems growing horizontally above the ground -have nodes where buds are formed and where buds grow into new plants

roots
new plants grow out of swollen, modified roots (tubers)
-buds develop at base of stem then grow into new plant

bulbs
underground stems with leaves attached
in favorable conditions, bulbs can divide to produce new plants

bulb parts
apical bulb-center of bulb and makes leaves and flowers
lateral bulbs- grow from the sides and produce new shoots
as plant grows, it will form a new bulb underground
