Vector & Scalar Flashcards
What are the vector quantities
Displacement, velocity, acceleration, deceleration, weight and momentum
What are the scalar quantities
Distance, speed, mass and inertia
What is meant by vector
Something with 2 quantities of measure being size and direction
What is meant by scalar
Something with 1 quantity of measure being size
Rectilinear motion
Motion along a straight line or path
Curvilinear motion
Motion along a curved line or path
Linear
Straight
Displacement
How far you move compared to your starting point
Velocity
How quickly something has moved in a given direction, measured in m/s
Acceleration
The rate of change of velocity measured in ms^-2
Deceleration
A reduction in acceleration measured in ms^-2
Weight
A force exerted on something by the gravitational pull
Momentum
Quantity of motion of a moving body measured as a product of its mass and velocity
Distance
The sum of all movement
Speed
How quickly the body moves measured in m/s
