Vector And Equipment Flashcards
Unit vector
A vector whose magnitude is one with no units in a given direction is called unit vector.
It is represented by a letter with a cap or hat on it.
Position vector
The vector which represents the position of point or particle with respect to fixed origin is called position vector.
Components of a vector
The effective value of a vector in a given direction is called component of a vector. A vector may be split into two or more components.
The vector sum of three vectors gives a zero resultant. What can be the possible orientation of the vectors?
If the three vectors are represented by the sides of a triangle joined by head to tail rule, their sum will be zero.
If one of the rectangular components of a vector is not zero, can it’s magnitude be zero? Explain
No it’s magnitude can not be zero.
The magnitude of A is given by
A=√Ax2+Ay2+Az2
This equation shows that magnitude of the vector will be zero only when all of its rectangular components are zero.
