A

Always address them with their name (center, departure, approach, etc.)

they may give you taxi and takeoff clearance, departure instructions also

  • Never say “with you”
  • Transition level will be lower, usually around 6000
  • don’t say twelve twenty two. say 1222
  • Say decimal instead of point
  • QNH instead of Altimeter
  • Request push and start in EU.

or if climbing - 6000 for 12, twelve thousand

ATC will assign a squawk

If VFR say position as well (X miles south of X VOR, airport, city)

If IFR be prepared with distance to next fix (with letters)

No but you should. File at least departure, destination, altitude.

If just flying around, say sightseeing

Transition is approach with a transition/via, not a STAR.

You may be expecting a STAR but if you cleared transition, need to reprogram the approach in the box.

ATC is telling you what the first fix in the SID to make sure you have the SID programmed correctly. This may be helpful to verify the correct runway and SID is set.

What do you do if cleared direct to a fix that’s not in your flight plan.

A

First read back. then try to find it in your plan / legs page. If can’t find it then tell ATC don’t see that in the flight plan confirm fix name.

Can tell ATC you’re having issues and will disconnect to sort it out. Or if on the ground, say you need a few min to sort it out.

no you’re cleared direct to alt? up to you? use open descent.
