Deep venous thrombosis
A
Risk factors:
- Prolonged immobility or hospitalization
- Recent major surgery
- Obesity
- Malignancy
- OCP use
- Pregnancy
- Drug injection (most common at iliofemoral vein = wall trauma, chemical irritation, or infection)
Clinical:
- Unilateral leg swelling
- Pain & warmth
- Physical exam: dilated superficial veins & increase diameter of calf or thigh
Diagnosis:
- Low risk: via D-Dimer
- High risk: via Doppler US
