Vasculature of the heart Flashcards
where do the coronary arteries arise from?
left + right aortic sinuses within aorta (above aortic valve)
Name all the surfaces arteries of the heart
left coronary artery left marginal artery right marginal artery right coronary artery left anterior descending artery
what and where are aortic sinuses found?
small openings within the aorta
behind left + right flap of aortic valves
How does blood enter the coronary arteries?
when heart relaxed, there is backflow of blood, blocked from entering the ventricles (backflow), but because sinus is proximal to valve, the blood is able to backflow into the coronary arteries
name the of the branches from left coronary artery
left coronary artery –> initially branch to the left –> LAD (left anterior descending / intraventricular)
LCA –> carries on to give –> LMA + LCA
LMA - left marginal artery
LCA - left circumflex artery
right coronary artery (RCA) branches
RCA –> right marginal artery (RMA) –> anterior + posterior interventricular artery (both posterior)
where do cardiac veins drain into?
coronary sinus - main vein of the heart
where is the coronary sinus located?
posterior surface in the coronary sulcus (groove between atria + ventricle)
where does the sinus drain into?
right atrium
where is the opening of the coronary sinus located?
between right atrioventricular orifice (opening) + inferior vena cava orifice (opening into right atrium)
name the 5 tributaries which drain into the coronary sinus
- great cardiac vein
- middle cardiac vein
- small cardiac vein
- left marginal vein
- left posterior ventricular vein
great cardiac vein
main tributary
originate apex –> anterior interventricular groove –> coronary sulcus –> around left side of heart –> coronary sinus
name the coronary arteries of the heart
left + right coronary artery
