Vascular Testing and Imaging Flashcards
What does the Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) measure?
peripheral tissue perfusion to rule out arterial disease
Ratio of systolic BP of the LE to SBP of the the UE
What does Continuous Wave Doppler do?
determines velocity of bloodflow direction (to determine severity of PVD)
What does Transcutaneous Oxygen Measure determine?
provides a measure of tissue hypoxia by looking at O2 tension of skin (mmHg)
Provides a predictor of wound healing success or failure
What does Arterial and Venous Duplex Scanning do?
Provide an accurate localization and quantification of lesions (differentiates stenosis from occlusions)
What does Laser Doppler measure?
skin/microvascular perfusion during and after bypass
What does Magnetic Resonance Angiography (MRA) measure?
LE ischemia in pts with a contraindication to standard contrast angiography
What does Computed Tompgraphy Angiography measure?
uses x-rays to visualize blood flow in arterial and venous vessels (used to detect clots in veins or narrowing of arteries)
What does a positive claudication test indicate?
How is it performed?
arterial involvement
ambulate on treadmill and note time or distance at which pain occurs
What does a positive capillary refill test indicate? What is normal?
surface arterial bloodflow
3 sec or less
What does a positive Homans sign test indicate?
DVT
