What is potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution used for evaluating?

A

Yeast or BV on a wet mount slide. KOH destroys the cell walls of bacteria and epithelial cells, but not the fungal cell walls. When BV cells are exposed to KOH, they release amines and produce a strong odor, “whiff test”
